DB Bros Records officially opened on April 2017, and to mark the occasion they invited Anthony B to deliver a full performance.
Born March 31, 1976, known by the stage name Anthony B, is a well-known reggae artist in Jamaica and a member of the Rastafari movement. Anthony B began Rastafari’s faith in his teens. The stubborn and determined Anthony B refuses to abandon his new religion and his dreadlocks and moves to the home of his aunt and uncle in Portmore, a suburb of Kingston. He is a member of the “Bobo Ashanti” branch of the movement. As we all know, Bobo Dreads can be identified by their robes and turbans. Strong African-centered pride and Rastafari’s faith are reflected in his songs …
Draped in the rich colors of African cloth, his trademark staff in hand, and his dreadlocks wrapped regally on his head, Anthony B has long embodied all that it is spiritual and proactive about Reggae music. This artist has been steadfast in his mission to represent the poor and oppressed, using sharp lyrics to confront political injustices and bring the issues of the people to the forefront. In the process, he has raised the quality of performance standards and lyrical content for the industry, through the release of 15 studio albums, over 1000 singles and appearances on over 100 albums in the last 20 years.
The traditional route of most African singers is via the church and Anthony B is no exception. Growing up in Clarks Town in the parish of Trelawney, his Revivalist grandmother and Seventh Day Adventist mother immersed him in the singing, call and response and clapping of rural Jamaica. He made his DJ debut on the local sound system Shaggy Hi-Power. His landmark debut album Real Revolutionary was released in 1996. The 2002 live DVD and CD, Live on the Battlefield, captures the essence of his early performances. Anthony B followed up with the critically acclaimed albums So Many Things, Universal Struggle, Seven Seals, That’s Life, Street Knowledge, Black Star, My Hope, Justice Fight, Untouchable, Suffering Man and Higher Meditation. Over the years, he has collaborated with international sensations such as Gyptian, Bone Crusher, Akon, Wyclef Jean, Snoop Dogg, and R. Kelly. The self-produced Tears of Luv on Born Fire Records, is Anthony’s 15th studio album, marking a new high in both his writing and performance skills. Released at the end of 2015, it celebrates his 20th year in the music business and features collaborations with Richie Spice, D. Wisdom, Sizzla, Capleton, Jah Clarity and Kandia Kora.
